Meet Mark

Committed to Safety. Dedicated to Justice. Ready to Serve.

A proven prosecutor, Mark has practiced law in Northern Nevada for more than 25 years, including six years with the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office as Chief Deputy District Attorney. During his tenure, he prosecuted a wide range of criminal cases – from serious drug offenses to homicide – as well as crimes against children and vulnerable adults.

Over the course of his career, Mark has tried more than 40 criminal jury trials. In one case, he secured a sentence of 375 years to life – the longest sentence in Lyon County history. He was also the first prosecutor in Nevada to obtain a conviction under the state law that makes it murder to supply drugs that result in a fatal overdose. In another historic first, Mark prosecuted a case in which a sitting Nevada Supreme Court Justice served as a juror.

In another case, Mark worked with law enforcement to remove several horses from a property where they had been severely neglected, sanded, and found emaciated. After receiving care and rehabilitation, the horses were adopted into safe homes. For Mark, protecting the vulnerable includes ensuring the law is enforced when animals are abused or neglected.

Mark believes that protecting victims must be at the center of the justice system. If elected, he will work to establish a dedicated Victim–Witness Advocate position within the District Attorney’s Office to help victims navigate the court process, better understand their rights and the status of their cases, and serve as a consistent point of contact for victims and families. In addition, Mark plans to use this role to strengthen community outreach by partnering with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office to expand and enhance community education efforts that help residents, especially seniors, identify and avoid frauds, scams, and schemes. By combining victim support with proactive community education, Mark aims to assist those who have been harmed while helping prevent others from becoming victims in the first place.

In addition to his criminal trial experience, Mark has extensive civil law experience. He has advised the Lyon County Commission and other county officials on a wide range of legal matters and understands the unique needs of the various communities that make up Nevada’s third-most populous county. In his current role as Chief Deputy Attorney General in the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, Bureau of Consumer Protection, he has played a key role in the State’s complex opioid litigation, helping secure more than $1.2 billion to address the devastating impacts of the opioid crisis on Nevada families and communities. Mark is also working to hold social media companies accountable for harms to children.

Mark is recognized as a strong and collaborative leader who builds effective teams and fosters accountability. He has trained law enforcement cadets through the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) and serves as an adjunct professor at Western Nevada College and Truckee Meadows Community College. Throughout his career, he has drafted state and local legislation, including provisions of the Lyon County Code, authored thousands of legal documents, and was a contributing author to a published book focused on improving the investigation and prosecution of crimes against children.
