CANDIDATE PROFILE
Mark Schoenhofer is a product of the Wichita community. His parents came here to build a life, and they did, starting the first KFC franchise in Wichita in the 1951. Mark’s younger years were spent between school at East High and helping his family manage a growing number of restaurants in the community. In 1993, after obtaining his undergrad at WSU and his law degree at Washburn University, Schoenhofer spent a year at the District Attorney’s office as a prosecutor before starting a private practice. A veteran of 75 trials and over 100 appeals, Mark has experience in the courtroom, understanding of criminal law, and the tough-on-crime focus this community deserves.
Mark Schoenhofer wants Wichita to be a safe, family community, by restoring trust to the DA’s office. It is not as safe as it used to be. Violent crimes are on the rise. KBI crime statistics show that between 1999 and 2006 instances of Rape have increased 42%. During that same period, instances of Aggravated Assault rose an appalling 146% in only seven years. This growth of violent crimes far outpaces larger cities like New York City.
“We must send a message to criminals that that they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Mark Schoenhofer said in a statement released Friday, July 11th. “The District Attorney is the chief prosecutor in Sedgwick County, as your candidate I pledge to use the full force of the DA’s office to put these violent criminals behind bars.”
“I will return Wichita to the safe, family community it once was by restoring trust in the office of District Attorney. The time is over for political posturing and favoritism from the District Attorney’s office, something that was all too common under Nola Foulston. I will run a vigorous campaign focused on making Sedgwick County residents safer, restoring trust in the D.A.’s office and prosecuting criminals without bias.”
